The focus of the Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program is to establish a strong foundation for learning. We provide a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and that helps meet the developmental needs of each child. A variety of learning opportunities are presented throughout the day. At any given moment, your children may be learning by making discoveries, exploring or investigating either independently or guided by one of the educators in the classroom. When children are playing, they are:
analyzing and evaluating
asking questions
discovering and investigating
creating
listening to others
cooperating
communicating and expanding vocabulary
experimenting and manipulating
solving problems
thinking and wondering
As outlined by the Ministry of Education, The Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten program is a child-centred, developmentally appropriate, integrated, extended-day program of learning for four- and five-year-old children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children. As a Christ-centred school, we also promote each child's spiritual and Catholic development. As with all of our kindergarten classes, they are blended age groups so that each child may progress at their own rate during this 2 year kindergarten program. This program reflects the belief that four- and five-year-olds are capable and active learners, full of potential and ready to take ownership of their learning. More information on this program can be found at the Ontario Ministry of Education website.
