Today we read, "Shubert's Helpful Day" and learned a new S.T.A.R song. We have been practicing our breathing techniques and learning all about our safe place icons.
Our focus right now is primarily on social-emotional learning and self regulation. We have been using the conscious discipline model in our classroom to help teach our students how to effectively respond to daily conflict, communicate and express their feelings, and develop critical life skills so that they can ultimately reach their full potential in all areas of the Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program.
I encourage you all to explore the conscious discipline website and to learn about the 4 breathing icons that we use here at school. Your child will be able to show you!

We love spelling our names with our pumpkin spiced play dough. We have been working on letter and sound recognition in fun and creative ways.
We love Cosmic yoga! We have been working on our breathing strategies so that we can feel calm, alert and relaxed.
Taking our math explorations beyond the classroom. Lets count and compare real ladybug spots outside.
We have been painting beautiful water colour pictures with Q-tips this week. Q-tip painting is an excellent fine motor activity that I encourage you and your child to try at home sometime.
We have been busy making surveys in our classroom! We are learning how to collect, record, and read data by asking questions, writing names, making check marks and tallies, and by counting and comparing numbers.
On Monday we did an apple tasting survey at one of our centers. Here are the results:
Green: 2 friends
Yellow: 7 friends
Red and Green: 6 friends

Beautiful provocations inspired by a bouquet of fresh flowers. Thank you Samantha!
We have been busy making predictions! I wonder how many pom poms are inside the jar?
